1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?

A cookie is a file that is downloaded to your computer upon accessing certain web pages. Cookies allow a web page, among other things, to store and retrieve information about the browsing habits of a user or their equipment and, depending on the information they contain and the way their equipment is used, can be used to recognize the user.

2. TYPES OF COOKIES

Depending on the entity that manages the equipment or domain from where the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, we can distinguish:

  • Own cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal equipment from a computer or domain managed by the editor itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided. They are also called first-party cookies.
  • Third-party cookies: These are sent to the user’s terminal equipment from a computer or domain that is not managed by the editor, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies. They are also called third-party cookies.

In the case that cookies are installed from a computer or domain managed by the editor itself but the information collected through them is managed by a third party, they are considered third-party cookies.

Depending on the length of time they remain activated in the terminal equipment, we can distinguish:

  • Session cookies: These are a type of cookies designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a web page. They are usually used to store information that only interests to preserve for the provision of the service requested by the user on a single occasion (e.g., a list of products purchased). These cookies are automatically deleted when the user closes their browser.
  • Persistent cookies: These are a type of cookies in which the data continues to be stored in the terminal and can be accessed and treated for a period defined by the cookie’s manager, which can range from a few minutes to several years.

Depending on the purpose for which the data obtained through the cookies are processed, we can distinguish between:

  • Technical cookies: These allow the user to navigate through a web page, platform, or application and use the different options or services that exist within, such as, for example, controlling traffic and data communication, identifying the session, accessing parts of restricted access, remembering the elements that make up an order, using security elements during navigation, or sharing content through social networks.
  • Personalization cookies: These allow the user to access the service with some general predefined features based on a series of criteria in the user’s terminal such as the language, the type of browser through which the service is accessed, the regional configuration from where the service is accessed, etc.
  • Analysis cookies: These allow the responsible party to track and analyze the behavior of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookies is used in measuring the activity of websites, applications, or platforms and for profiling user navigation of these sites, applications, and platforms, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the users’ service usage data.
  • Advertising cookies: These allow the management, in the most effective way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included in a web page, application or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the content edited or the frequency at which the ads are displayed.
  • Behavioral advertising cookies: These allow the management, in the most effective way possible, of the advertising spaces that, where appropriate, the editor has included in a web page, application, or platform from which the requested service is provided. These cookies store information on the behavior of users obtained from the continuous observation of their browsing habits, which allows the development of a specific profile to display advertising based on it.

In the following table, all the cookies used on this website are identified, indicating their specific purpose and whether the information obtained by the cookies is processed by the editor and/or also by third parties with whom the editor has contracted the provision of a service for which the use of cookies is required, with identification of these latter.
